MyCare for Patients

Blood tests help doctors know what is going on in their patient’s bodies.  A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm and sent to a clinical laboratory.  The laboratory tests the blood and reports back results.  Saladax Biomedical makes tests so that the level of drug in your blood can be tested in a clinical laboratory like the one already doing other tests on your blood.
The practice of measuring drug in blood, and interpreting the result for optimal treatment is referred to Therapeutic Drug Management (TDM) or Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM).  TDM personalizes therapy because it allows dosing to be adjusted for each individual patient.  Not all drugs require TDM.  Some drugs have a narrow therapeutic window: the effective and toxic levels of the drug are very close.  Because each individual is different, patients may be above range or below range at the same dose.

TDM has been around since the 1970’s and is used in many areas of medicine, but less so in oncology.  However, drugs used in chemotherapy are ideal candidates for TDM, because they have a narrow therapeutic window.  In practice to perform TDM there needs to be a convenient, reliable, inexpensive way to measure the drug in blood.  This is where Saladax comes in.  We make immunoassays: a reliable, inexpensive workhorse methodology for many tests in clinical laboratories.
