Welcome Message From Saladax CEO, Ed Erickson

Welcome to the official Saladax Biomedical blog, where my colleagues and I will be providing regular company updates, including product news, commercialization efforts, partnerships, financing and other milestones.  We will also focus on important industry news and developments.

Since joining Saladax as CEO in January, I have the privilege of working with a first-class team to develop and commercialize products that improve patient response to drug therapies and help physicians identify patients who are likely to respond to new, innovative drugs.  Our initial focus is in oncology, but we are working in other areas of medicine as well.  I am proud to be part of such a unique company pursuing a novel, and yet practical, approach to realizing and achieving the promise of personalized medicine.

We hope this blog will serve as a place where people get involved, come to know our company better and have the opportunity to communicate with us in an interactive environment.  We encourage you to leave comments for us and each other, creating a friendly, collaborative and mutually beneficial community.

On behalf of Saladax, we look forward to interacting with you.

Ed Erickson, CEO

Hello Ed,
I look forward to reading your blog. To what other areas of medicine (other than oncology), would pharmacodiagnostic testing be appropriate? What are your thoughts on "stratified medicine" and how it ties in to your business? I thank you in advance for your response.

Dear Hazard,

I believe pharmacodiagnostic testing is applicable to virtually all fields of medicine. In fact, therapeutic dose monitoring (we prefer “management”) is used in many fields of medicine today, but it has not been applied as extensively in cancer. We are trying to fill the gaps!

Stratification of patients involves the use of biomarkers to identify patients with common biologically important characteristics, and typically the goal is to identify patients who are likely to respond to and benefit from a specific drug. This is one of the applications for so-called companion diagnostics (CDx). CDx assays may also be useful for identifying patients who are likely to have serious side-effects for a specific drug due to the presence or absence of certain biological markers. Through our agreement with Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) we are developing companion diagnostic assays for some of BMS’ drug pipeline products. The press release can be found on our web site,www.saladax.com.
